“Blue Whale is one of the most majestic species found in oceans. It is a massive marine mammal. Their weight is equivalent to that of 25 adult elephants. An adult Blue Whale is slightly longer than the basketball court. Their arteries are so huge that humans can swim through them. According to the international whaling commission, they have been listed as endangered with their numbers being depleted due to commercial whaling. They face numerous threats due to ship strikes, entanglement, ocean noise, oil and climate change. Whales are at the top of the food chain and play an important role in the overall health of the marine environment. The number of blue whales today is only a small fraction of what it was before modern commercial whaling significantly reduced their numbers during the early 1900s, but populations are increasing globally. There are multiple organisations now that are dedicated to conserving and rebuilding blue whale populations worldwide.”
